Brick won’t activate? Step-by-step fix
Please confirm that you see a “Ready to Scan” popup when you tap the center icon on the Brick app.
If not, Brick is having trouble syncing. Please follow the steps below and tap the center Brick icon after each step:
Force quit the Brick app and reopen it
Restart your device
Make sure the Brick app is updated to the latest version
Check for any available iOS or Android updates
If yes:
Try tapping the part of your phone that has the NFC reader when scanning
Device | NFC Reader Location |
iPhone | Top back |
Samsung Galaxy (S, Note, Z series) | Usually top-center on the back, near the camera |
Google Pixel | Top-back region |
OnePlus | Center-back, a bit higher than the fingerprint scanner if present |
Sony Xperia | Middle-back |
If you have a thick case on your phone, try removing it
(Android) Make sure you've turned NFC capabilities on in your phone's Settings
To do this, search NFC in your Settings and toggle it on if it isn't
If it still doesn’t scan, we’ll need to do a quick check using a free app called NFC Tools. You can download it on the iPhone App Store or the Android Play Store. Once installed, tap ‘Read’ and try scanning your Brick.
Once you’ve done so, please email hello@getbrick.app with the following information.
Does NFC Tools successfully scan the Brick?
(iPhone) Under the ‘Writable’ section, do you see a section labeled ‘Record 1 - Text’?
(Android) At the bottom, do you see a section labeled ‘Record 1 - UTF-8 ()’?
